The program
The history and continuum of the URGENCI symposium
Following the experience of the Community Alliance for Family Farmers, the International Symposium in Monterey shed light on the risks of our movement being captured by corporate businesses, as well as on the best strategies to address them by reaffirming our ethics and core principles.

The 6th Symposium in Beijing (2015) confronted the paradox of scaling while protecting agroecology; networks shared tools for fair pricing, producer well-being, and community governance.

The 7th in Thessaloniki (2018) anchored CSA within food-sovereignty struggles amid austerity, centering justice, access to land, and movement alliances.

The 8th in Manaus (2021)—held digitally during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Brazilian Amazon, during overlapping ecological and democratic crises—reaffirmed decolonial perspectives, climate urgency, and translocal cooperation.
Across these milestones, the goals have been constant: strengthen territorial food systems, secure dignified livelihoods, and defend the commons.
The challenges—climate breakdown, corporate capture, precarious farm incomes, shrinking civic space—are real.
Our current hope, as we meet again, is practical and political: deepen mutual aid among producers and members, knit together our international networks, and advance policies that protect food, land, water, seeds, and community autonomy.
The Symposium remains what it has always been:
a working assembly where learning and sharing becomes collective capacity—and capacity becomes action.”
