Participatory video making offers the framework to collaboratively make and use film material to share personal experiences and to stimulate discussions based on different perspectives. Participatory means that the filming is done by the group. There is no external filmmaker who ‘directs’. What is filmed and how this is done remains up to the group. Participatory video processes can take different forms depending on the group’s capacities, time resources and capabilities. Support, for example in planning and editing can be provided by external partners but control over the material should remain with the participants.
