The SWIFT Portal: Feminist Action for Food System Transformation

The SWIFT Portal is a space for learning, action, and solidarity by supporting women and LGBTQ+ people, farmers and practicioners who are leading the way in transforming agriculture and rural life. Rooted in feminist, intersectional, and human rights-based approaches, the portal brings together tools, stories, and collective strategies to advance gender justice and agroecological transitions in Europe and beyond.

This platform is not neutral. It exists because current agricultural systems and rural policies too often exclude, exploit, or invisibilise the experiences and contributions of women and gender-diverse people, especially those engaged in small-scale, peasant, and community-based farming. The SWIFT Portal actively supports efforts to reclaim power, revalue care and reproductive labour, and push back against the cisheteropatriarchal norms and extractivist logics embedded in our current food systems.

Built as part of the SWIFT Horizon Europe project—Supporting Women-Led Innovations in Farming Territories—this portal shares the work of a 14-partner, 12-country transdisciplinary consortium that centers co-created knowledge, feminist innovation, and action research. It connects 21 Women-Led Initiatives (WLIs) across Europe, as well as movements in Brazil and the US, offering both global perspective and local resonance.

Explore the portal to find:

  • Strategies and tools for gender-responsive policy change and budgeting

  • Stories and methods from women-led agroecological innovation

  • A growing network of people committed to transformative, intersectional change

The portal is both a repository as well as rallying point for researchers, activists, producers, policymakers, and all those working to build just, feminist, and sustainable food futures.

The Portal offers a rich collection of resources, including videos, policy briefs, a searchable map with initiatives for feminist agroecological futures and podcasts. The Portal is designed for those seeking inspiration, tools, or a community with whom to collaborate.
